Remembering Mizzie

Her story:

Mizzie, formerly known as Missy came to Affenpinscher Rescue of America in February 2015.  Much of her life like her age is a mystery. A good Samaritan had taken her brother Mikey and her from a bad environment in 2013 and had given them to a friend.  When the friend died, the Samaritan took them but could not care for them.  They were living in a car. Mikey died before he got into rescue’s care and Missy lived with a loving foster family in Virginia for nine months.  Missy was extremely thin, evaluated to be in fair health, estimated to be 11 or 12 years old and had three teeth; however, she had spunk and was a survivor.  She gained weight, her health improved, she played with her foster family’s other Affens and dogs and stole her foster family’s hearts.  Due to age her chances of being adopted were slim; however, she had a ‘knight in shining armor.” A veterinarian in Florida who has a passion for Affenpinschers particularly those with special circumstances and who had previously adopted an Affenpinscher wanted her to become part of his family!   In December  2015 he and Mizzie flew home to Florida!  There she continued to flourish with the love, care and affection of her adopter and the companionship of her dog family. Mizzie continued to steal the hearts of everyone who met her.  She was successfully treated for cancer, had benign tumors removed and lost her last three teeth, but none of it slowed her down or dampened her spirit.  She was an inspiration!  On April 7 Mizzie left us unexpectedly and all too soon. Her family and friends are devastated.  She was a very special little Affen and will forever be in our hearts.
